Gunning for a fashionable future

Tradition meets trend-setting in the Gunmakers in fashionable Clerkenwell, where a pop-up cocktail bar company is taking its first steps into the pub trade.

They have purchased the remaining eight years of a 20-year lease on the classic pub at a passing rent of £35,000 a year through boutique licensed leisure specialists AG&G.

“It’s a great match, given that the pub already has what the Guardian describes as an achingly hip clientele and the new lessees run bars for big name festivals and major drinks brands,” says Michael Penfold of AG&G.

“The Gunmakers already has a great reputation for real ale and traditional pub food so we can expect some cutting-edge touches to be added to the mix. It should be a winning combination and, with Crossrail coming to nearby Farringdon, the area is only going to go further up.”

The pub is a classic, flat-fronted, end of terrace building in Eyre Street Hill, off Clerkenwell Road, with trade areas on the ground floor, a dining/bar area and trade kitchen on the first floor and living accommodation and an office on the second floor. There is a patio trade garden at the back.
