James spent a decade with a firm of hotel and licensed property specialists, beginning with London before heading up a new regional office. As associate director, he managed the London sales division and gained further experience in consultancy.

At AG&G he advises Mitchells & Butlers’ franchise letting programme and has acted for Greene King, Enterprise Inns and Grant Thornton. He has acquired and disposed of many premier public houses and represented the seller of what has become the nationally-renowned Hotel du Vin in Brighton.

Restaurant mandates have included the rental valuation of the Rainforest Café, W1; bank valuation of Belair House, Dulwich; acquisition of the former Spigga restaurant, Chelsea, on behalf of Tugga; rent review of Café Rouge in Clapham; and the sale of sites in Tunbridge Wells, to Wagamama, and in Bray to celebrity chef Heston Blumenthal.

James is a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, Fellow of the Association of Valuers of Licensed Property and a member of the Restaurant Property Advisors Society.

James is also a dedicated Seagull – a supporter of Brighton and Hove Albion football club.
